A trip to the convenience store for a Windsor man resulted in a $50,000 prize being won.
Rene Dewachter purchased an Ontario 49 ticket for the draw that took place on September 17. He matched five out of the six numbers drawn, plus the bonus number, to win the game’s second prize.
The 34-year-old teacher was in disbelief when he found out he had won.
“The terminal made a strange noise, and everything froze, when I saw Big Winner appear, I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked,” said Dewachter.
Dewachter picked up his $50,000 check this week at the OLG Prize Center in Toronto. He said he had no plans for how to spend the money.
He bought his winning ticket at the A-2-Z Convenience Store on Tecumseh Road East in Windsor.
Ontario 49 offers a top prize of $2-million for matching all six numbers drawn. Players can win a free ticket for matching just two numbers drawn.
