What’s open and closed this Thanksgiving in Windsor Essex?


With Thanksgiving a day geared toward families, many businesses in Windsor-Essex will be closed so employees can be home with them.

Thanksgiving is a federal statutory holiday, which means all federal, provincial, and municipal offices are closed Monday. All financial institutions will also be shuttered. There will be no Canada Post delivery.

All Service Ontario branches will be closed on Thanksgiving. Some transactions though can still be performed on their website.

There will be no classes Monday at any of the four public school boards serving Windsor-Essex, along with St Clair College and the University of Windsor. All classes will resume on Tuesday.

All branches of the Windsor Public Library and the Essex County Library will be closed on Thanksgiving.

All Beer Store outlets will be closed on Monday, along with all LCBO outlets.

Devonshire Mall and Tecumseh Mall in Windsor are both closed on Monday. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle will be open from 10 am to 6 pm

If you have no plans for Thanksgiving dinner and want to go out to eat, bear in mind that many restaurants will be closed or on shortened hours Monday. Call first to avoid a wasted trip. The same applies to grocery stores and big-box retailers.

Residential garbage, yard waste and recyclable collection in Windsor normally done on Monday will be delayed a day. Refer to your 2022-2023 waste collection calendar for details. Commercial garbage collection will take place as normal. The public drop-off center at Central and EC Row in Windsor will be closed on Thanksgiving.

The 311 call center will be closed Monday. The 211 call center will operate 24 hours a day as usual to serve all Windsor-Essex residents.

All indoor recreation facilities in the City of Windsor will be closed Monday with the exception of those hosting pre-booked rentals and the H-4 program at Windsor Water World, which will operate during its normal hours, from 8:30 am to 6 pm The Windsor Spitfires are hosting an OHL game at the WFCU Center on Monday against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, with a 2 pm faceoff.

All of Windsor’s indoor pools will be closed on Thanksgiving. Adventure Bay Family Water Park and Cannon Cove are closed as well.

At Lakeview Park Marina, the customer service office and fuel dock will be open from 9 am to 6 pm Monday, and the boat launch ramps will be operating from 7 am to 6 pm

There will be no parking enforcement in Windsor on Monday. Metered street parking is free on Thanksgiving and all traffic fine payment offices will be closed. Parking garages and lots, however, will be paid as usual.

The Francois Baby House and Chimczuk Museum in Windsor are both closed Monday, their normal day off.

Transit Windsor buses will operate on a Sunday-holiday schedule Monday. The downtown transit terminal will be open Monday from 8 am to 4 pm, though the sales office on North Service Road will be closed. The tunnel bus to Detroit is suspended until November 20.

In the town of Tecumseh, there will be no transit service on Thanksgiving. Tecumseh Arena is closed Monday except for pre-scheduled rentals. Recycling and yard waste collection, however, will proceed on a normal schedule.
