Joan Ruth Windsor, 82, pioneer in analysis and remedy of remarkable youngsters

Joan Ruth Windsor, 82, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017.
Her husband, Dr. James C. Windsor, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her two children and their spouses, James L. Windsor, and his wife, Kay, and Robin Windsor Rice, and her husband, Steve; and grandchildren, Jay Windsor, Anne Taylor Windsor, Tyler Windsor, Sarah Rice, Sam Rice, Spencer Rice and Emma Rice.
A longtime resident of Williamsburg, Mrs. Windsor received a BA degree from the College of William & Mary and graduated Summa Cum Laude with an M.Ed. degree in guidance and counseling. A pioneer in the evaluation and treatment of exceptional children and adults, she founded Learning Development Services, a private treatment facility in Newport News.
As Christopher Newport’s second first lady, Joan Windsor participated fully in that position’s various responsibilities during her husband’s tenure as president of the college.
An active writer, Mrs Windsor’s articles have appeared in various publications. She is the author of several books, including The Inner Eye, Dreams and Healing and Passages of Light. A licensed professional counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia, she joined her husband at the Personal Development Institute after his departure from Christopher Newport.
Mrs. Windsor’s life will be honored by family and friends at 11 am, Friday, Nov. 24, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Interment will be private.
