South Windsor — SOUTH WINDSOR – The 17th annual Paws in the Park, sponsored by VCA Animal Hospital, will take place on Saturday, July 23, from 10 am to 7 pm at the fairgrounds, 75 Brookfield St.

The free event benefits the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, South Windsor Bark Park, TRACS (Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter) and other local organizations, charities and groups. Last year, the event raised more than $15,000 for charity.

Paws in the Park, organized by the South Windsor Jaycees, has plenty of attractions for canine friends and children of all ages.

For furry friends, there are contests such as Best Costume, Best Kisser, and Musical Sit. There are doggie rest and water stations. Amongst the vendors will be shelters and rescues looking for homes for their pups. Adoption parades will take place at 10:30 am and 2 pm for pups to show their stuff and try to find a forever home.

Free attractions for children include a moon bounce, Magic of Christopher, balloon artists, Paw Patrol (Skye and Chase) from 11 am to 1 pm, and music with Mach 1. Wonder Woman and Captain America will join the event from 4:30 to 6:30 pm A fire show with FireBolly will take place at 5:30 pm

A food festival featuring 14 food trucks will have Italian ice, Tornado hot dogs, meals in a cone, Lebanese, Brazilian and Spanish food and more. There will be over 100 vendors, canine demonstrations, and a prize ring for guests to win products and gift certificates from local businesses. SOUTH WINDSOR – A veteran’s coffee hour will take place at the South Windsor Community Center, 150 Nevers Road, the 3rd Thursday of the month at 9 am The next meeting is July 21. Coffee and Gerry’s donuts will be available. For more info, call Ken Lewis at 860-416-5276.

Miller American Legion Post 133 South Windsor meets on the third Tuesday of every month at the South Windsor Community Center, 150 Nevers Road, room 205-207, at 7 pm All veterans are welcome.
