Downtown Windsor’s Artwork Alley will get new additions this weekend

New explosions of color will be seen in a downtown Windsor alleyway.

The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) has announced the debuts of two giant murals in Art Alley, located parallel to Ouellette Avenue in the heart of the downtown core.

Windsor-based graffiti artist Derkz will use a storage unit in the adjacent Pelissier Street Parking Garage for his mural.

Derkz most recently completed a giant mural for the facade of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 261 in Tecumseh, as part of the Town’s recent 100th birthday celebration.

Toronto-based artist Moises “Luvs” Frank is working on a mural entitled “Bury Me in Lavender Roses”, which is going up on the rear wall of the building at 427 Ouellette Avenue.

Frank’s mural will feature a distinctive three-dimensional effect, flowing progressively upwards from a single story to the upper left edge of the building at the second-story roofline.

Pat Papadeas, Vice-Chairperson of the Downtown Windsor Business Revitalization Association, said both murals will add color to a previously drab and boring space.

“They are so stimulating and incredibly striking,” said Papadeas. “What these pieces do is further cement the core as a great visual destination. Incorporating them into events such as the Night Market and Farmers’ Market makes for a fully immersive experience.”

Art Alley is a collaborative project between the DWBIA and the Downtown Windsor Business Revitalization Project, and it is already home to a handful of art installations that are used as a backdrop to events such as the weekly Downtown Farmers’ Market, and the monthly Pelissier Street Night Market.
